ATTACK ON SMALL HOLDING – Honeydew – Johannesburg
On May 1, 2006 Michael and his girlfriend Jenny were attacked on his small holding in Honeydew. Four black male robbers took part in the operation. Two robbers went for Jenny inside their home and started shooting at the dogs. They then demanded money from Jenny, shooting wildly in the house. One of the shots nearly hit her while she was taking money out of the closet.
Here the path of the bullet can be seen passing between Jenny and the closet, ending up in the wall.
At the same time the other two robbers went for Michael who was at his workshop about 120 meters from the house. The shots from the robbers at the house were a sign for these two to attack Michael.
Michael was busy repairing his truck’s tires when the shots made him look up. He stared into the barrel of a Tokarev pistol. The black man commanded Michael to turn around and kneel, telling him he (Michael) is going to “sleep”, meaning he is going to die. This is the execution style of murders in South Africa. A kneeled person shot in the back of the head. Michael decided to fight back from his unfavorable situation.
He got up and grabbed the gun from the criminal closest to him and was busy turning the robber’s pistol on himself when the second man came up and put his pistol to Michael’s cheek and shot him. Stunned he still fought back courageously. He later told us “Ek het gedink hier vrek ons vandag” (I thought here we die today). He still wrestled with the thugs who also hit him with a crowbar on the head. Michael broke free and ran for his life. While he ran away he was also shot through his right thigh. He jumped through his own electric fence designed to keep these murderers out. The thugs ran after him yelling: “Get him, get him!” Michael said he did not know that he was also shot through his leg and only felt his leg gave way as he ran. Michael ran for 800meters to the next neighbor where they phoned the ambulance.
Three months later and NO arrests have been made.
These criminals can come back anytime while Michael and Jenny still runs their business and creating much needed job opportunities.
